Principal's Message
Dear OVO Community,
Welcome to Orangevale Open! We are looking forward to getting the school year underway and there are a few things we’d like to share with you that help us maintain our unique learning community. It is a shared responsibility that we have with one another which makes this school unique and taking a moment to revisit and/or learn about these “Orangevalian” ways will help things run smoothly throughout the year.
First and foremost, we are always concerned with our students’ safety and well-being. From the morning drop off until they leave campus in the afternoon, you can help us keep students safe by following the drop-off and pick up routines that are outlined in this PDF. Please share it with the people who will be transporting your students to and from school.
Second, we want our students to find their voice and learn how to express themselves in a variety of settings while developing “Successful Practices and Indicators” via a growth mindset. When a challenge/problem presents itself, we encourage them to persevere and use our “Stop and Breathe” process to aid in the successful resolution to the matter. Likewise, if issues arise between students, we encourage them to use our OVO PeacePath that combines the use of “I” messages and a “Clean Up” process if the situation calls for it.
Regarding creating independent students, we have put into practice the “Love and Logic” approach developed by Jim and Charles Fay. You can find an introduction to the topic here:

Last, communication is important to our learning community. Please make sure that you read the weekly Connection. Additionally, each grade level has a Shutterfly account that contains information specific to that population. Please sign up and read those emails as well. Should an issue arise, we also have guidelines that will help you resolve it quickly.
Looking forward to another great year at OVO!
Rick
